The Office of Science and Technology Policy advises the President and the Executive Office on the impacts of science and technology on domestic and international affairs; develops and implements sound science and technology policies and budgets; and evaluate the scale, quality, and effectiveness of the Federal effort in science and technology.

The Federal Chief Technology Officer is an assistant to the President, as well as the Associate Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He works closely with the Chief Information Officer, to develop and implement the President's ambitious technology agenda which includes:

-Using information technology to transform the way government does business
-Foster private sector innovation
-Reduce administrative costs and errors through utilization of health IT
-Change the way teachers teach and students learn

The CTO develops national strategies for using advanced technologies to transform our economy and our society, such as fostering private sector innovation, reducing administrative costs and medical errors using health IT, and using technology to change the way teachers teach and students learn.
