Marine Week Cleveland Kicks Off Speaker’s Series:

The United States Marine Corps, in partnership with the City of Cleveland, Ohio, is rolling out the Marine Week Cleveland Speaker Series, which will bring senior Marine Corps leadership to Cleveland to discuss current, relevant topics to the Nation. Starting in February and continuing through Marine Week Cleveland in June, the Speaker Series will focus on a variety of issues including the ongoing operations in Afghanistan, NATO in the 21st Century, the next chapter of NASA space exploration, as well as leadership skills from the combat zone to the classroom, and innovative medical developments assisting returning wounded warriors.?
On Tuesday, February 7, Major General Ronald L. Bailey, commanding general, 1st Marine Division will kick-off the series with a discussion on “The Future of Afghanistan…A Military Perspective" at the City Club of Cleveland, 850 Euclid Avenue at 12:00 pm. As the commanding general of the oldest and largest active-duty division in the United States Marine Corps, he leads a multi-role, expeditionary ground combat-ready force of more than 19,000 men and women. The 1st Marine Division will deploy with the First Marine Expeditionary Force, I MEF, in March to support combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
The United States Marine Corps, in partnership with the City of Cleveland, Ohio, is bringing Marine Week to the nation’s Rock and Roll Capital, June 11-17, 2012. A celebration of community, country and Corps, Marine Week provides the unique opportunity for the American public to interact with Marines, and the high-tech gear they use to defend our Nation. Marine Week attendees will also have the opportunity to climb aboard a variety of the Corps’ aircraft and ground equipment at static display venues throughout downtown Cleveland, to include the revolutionary MV-22 Osprey and the multifaceted Assault Amphibious Vehicle. Clevelanders will be able to witness Marine Corps martial arts demonstrations and engage in clinics with Marine Corps sports teams, all while taking in the sights and sounds of the Silent Drill Platoon and Marine Corps Band. Marines will be lending a hand to local communities through dozens of community service projects, such as neighborhood clean-ups, park restorations and housing rebuilds. The week will culminate with a simulated full-scale combat demonstration, as the Marines highlight the unique capabilities they use to fight our country’s battles in the air, on land and at sea.
