The 2015 FilmForums Series in partnership with the Cleveland International Film Festival, part 3

The 2015 FilmForums Series in partnership with the Cleveland International Film Festival, part 3

We’re just under halfway through another amazing Cleveland International Film Festival! Last week, we told you about the first eight FilmForums sponsored by the City Club. Today you’ll hear about our last 4! We’ve had a great time meeting you and facilitating some amazing discussions, which we hope will continue through the festival and beyond! These forums will last for about 45 minutes after the conclusion of each film.

Thursday, March 26th @ 6:05 pm - Art Connect (run time: 90 minutes)

How can the creative process awaken the potential within young people in our community? The Levantile is one of the most crime-laden and violent communities in Trinidad and Tobago. But co-existing with the high crime rate and poverty is a thriving arts movement that encourages students to express themselves and communicate outside of the culture of violence and fear. Dee Perry from ideastream will moderate a panel that includes the director of the film, Kathleen Cerveny from The Cleveland Foundation, Darnell Weaver from Rainey Institute, and DJ Doc Harrill who is the founder of the FRESH Camp.

Friday, March 27th @ 4:20 pm - Divide in Concord (run time: 82 minutes)

What role does grassroots activism have in democracy today? Divide in Concord is a feature-length documentary that follows the entertaining tale of banning bottled water in small town America. Nick Castele from ideastream will be moderating the panel, which will include both the director and producer of the film. They will be joined by Belle Likover, a senior activist in Cleveland, and by Jacob Van Sickle of Bike Cleveland.

Saturday, March 28th @ 11:30 am - Silenced (run time: 104 minutes)

What do we lose when we can’t hear the whistleblowers? This alarming documentary takes us behind the scenes as two men are charged under the archaic Espionage Act of 1917, blurring the lines between what is right and what is treasonous. The director of the film as well as one of the subjects of the film will be joined by Gary Daniels, chief lobbyist at the ACLU, to lead this forum. The panel will be moderated by Mike McIntyre of ideastream.

Sunday, March 29th @ 11:35 am - An Honest Liar (run time: 92 minutes)

Can you predict what this forum will be about? Join us in exploring the tale of a former magician who fought to increase the intelligence of his audience while still keeping some secrets of his own. Two of the film’s subject will be present for the panel, as will the co-directors of the film. They will be moderated by Tony Ganzer from ideastream. We have no idea what this panel will be about, so come and help us figure it out!
