Our Favorite Forums of 2015

Our Favorite Forums of 2015

2015 was a big and busy year for us here at the City Club. We hosted a record 140+ forums as we welcomed speakers from near and far. Here were some of our favorites:

The Honorable Louis Stokes (January 16, 2015)

U.S. Congressman from Ohio (Retired)

Nikil Saval (January 21, 2015)

Author of Cubed: A Secret History of the Workplace and Editor, n+1

“Nikil Saval provided context for the fascinating history of perhaps the most mundane sounding of topics: the American workplace. This forum was a personal favorite for its unique historical perspective,” said Content Associate Teddy Eisenberg.

Mark Everson (April 3, 2015)

Former IRS Commissioner and former candidate for the Republican nomination for president

Carolyn Woo (June 5, 2015)

President and CEO, Catholic Relief Charities

“Carolyn Woo was my favorite speaker because of her advocacy to end extreme poverty around the world,” said Assistant Director of Catering Jessica Rowe.

Janet Yellen (July 10, 2015)

Chair, Board of Directors, Federal Reserve System

Dr. Ben Carson (July 22, 2015)

Candidate for the Republican nomination for president

Josh Mandel (August 11, 2015)

Treasurer of Ohio

Eric Gordon (August 24, 2015)

Chief Executive Officer, Cleveland Metropolitan School District

Arun Gandhi (August 28, 2015)

Co-Founder, M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence

“My favorite forum of 2015 was Arun Gandhi because he told incredible stories about philosophies of peace and nonviolence we can all benefit from,” said Director of Content and Experience Maria Gerstenberger.

Marlon James (September 11, 2015)

Anisfeld-Wolf Book Award winner, A Brief History of Seven Killings

Jen Bricker (September 17, 2015)

Aerialist and Acrobat

“My favorite speaker was Jen Bricker because she overcame a lot of hardships and taught us how anything is possible if you just believe,” said Office Assistant Wesley Allen.

Senator Sherrod Brown (October 9, 2015)

U.S. Senator, State of Ohio

“Senator Brown serves as the very definition of a civil servant and it was refreshing to hear his take on many problems facing Ohio and our nation and also his solutions for fixing them,” said Content Associate Teddy Eisenberg.

Peter Cappelli (October 23, 2015)

George W. Taylor Professor of Management, University of Pennsylvania

Carla Harris (October 30, 2015)

Vice Chairman and Managing Partner, Morgan Stanley

Ta-Nehisi Coates (November 2, 2015)

Author, Between the World and Me and National Correspondent, The Atlantic

and of course, our list wouldn't be complete without mentioning that the President of the United States, Barack Obama, visited us on March 18.
