Nancy Jacobson Looks to Help us Weather the Political Storm
The results are in, and as the dust settles from the latest round of primary contests on March 15, the only thing that is clearer is the race for the White House is still far from over.
Donald Trump, as polls predicted, won four of five states; all but Ohio, whose 66 delegates went to Ohio governor John Kasich. Trump’s margin of victory was so great in Florida, where he bested Florida Senator Marco Rubio by more than 18 percent, that he forced the candidate from the race. Bidding farewell and thanks to his supporters over his 11 month campaign, Rubio’s parting words were a telling diagnosis of the current state of American politics:
America is in the middle of a real political storm, a real tsunami, and we should have seen this coming. Look, people are angry and people are really frustrated… From a political standpoint, the easiest thing to have done in this campaign is to jump on all those anxieties I just talked about, to make people angrier, make people more frustrated… The politics of resentment against other people will not leave us a fractured party, they’re going to leave us a fractured nation.
The political storm Rubio describes – one of resentment and anger toward people of opposing views – is exactly what Nancy Jacobson’s organization, No Labels, works to help weather by encouraging and facilitating collaboration among political leaders of both major parties. By bringing Democratic and Republican leaders together, No Labels hopes to the nation’s pressing problems not by channeling anger, but by riding the crest of the tsunami in a bipartisan way.
Join us on March 18 to hear from Ms. Jacobson on the important work her organization is doing.
