#DemsInPhilly: Day One

#DemsInPhilly: Day One

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) will be held July 25-28 in Philadelphia. Like we did during the RNC, we’ll compile the DNC’s biggest news stories on our blog, keeping you up-to-date on what’s happening with #DemsinPhilly.

“...the Democratic Party's rules committee voted to created a ‘unity commission’ that would dramatically limit the role of convention ‘superdelegates,’ binding roughly two-thirds of them to the results of state primaries and caucuses.”

Democrats vote to bind most superdelegates to state primary results, The Washington Post

“Among the more than 19,000 messages released by the WikiLeaks website are signs of bias in favor of Hillary Clinton over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’s campaign, undermining the DNC’s stated objective of broad-based support for Democrats seeking office.”

Emails that helped cost DNC Chief Debbie Wasserman Schultz her job show Democratic discord,

The Wall Street Journal

“Ms. Wasserman Schultz has faced a flurry of negative stories during her five-year tenure as the committee’s chairwoman, with critics charging that she was more focused on promoting her own career than on the party, but she has until now resisted calls for her to quit.”

“Most Americans want something better than what the Democratic-Republican duopoly crams down their throats. They’re mad as hell and, as evidenced in Cleveland and Philadelphia, they’re just starting to realize how powerful they are. They don’t need to take it anymore.”

All hell breaks loose at Democratic National Convention, The Atlantic

“Sanders joined a high-wattage line-up of speakers, including first lady Michelle Obama who delivered a forceful, impassioned defense of the Democratic nominee. Mrs. Obama’s address all but wiped away earlier tumult in the convention hall that had exposed lingering tensions between Clinton and Sanders supporters.”
