NEOEA welcomes State Superintendent!
As a Community Partner in Friday's presentation by Paolo DeMaria, we at NEOEA want to welcome him to Northeastern Ohio and to the City Club.
Many of us have met Superintendent DeMaria previously. When the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) held its 2016 listening sessions across the state to help formulate Ohio's plan to implement the Every Student Succeeds Act, many of our members attended. They were delighted to see that he left the comfort of Columbus and went into the field to attend those sessions along with members of ODE's staff.
Superintendent DeMaria came to his position at a time when educators and citizens alike were facing a crisis of confidence in the Department of Education and the State Board of Education. The work of revitalizing those institutions and developing public confidence in them has begun, but it continues, and we wish him well as he continues those tasks.
Ohio's General Assembly has the power to make laws, but it can't make them work when those laws are unrealistic or misguided or based on insufficient feedback from actual educators. It frequently falls to the Department and the Board to implement those laws in ways that make them workable. The Superintendent of Public Instruction plays a pivotal role in that process. Together with the Ohio Education Association, and local educators across Northeastern Ohio, we at NEOEA look forward to working with Superintendent DeMaria to help build great public schools for every child.
We are excited to hear his comments at The City Club on Friday, July 14.
This program is sold out, but you can watch our live stream here or on Facebook live, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
