Ohio 2018: Meet the GOP Candidates for Governor
There are two Republican candidates running for governor of Ohio, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and current Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor. The official deadline to file with the state of Ohio to run was February 8, primary voting day is May 8 and general election day is November 6.
DeWine was elected state attorney general in 2010 and was re-elected to the position in 2014. He has also served as an Ohio senator, U.S. senator, state presentative and was the Ohio lieutenant governor from 1991 to 1994.
Taylor was elected lieutenant governor on Governor John Kasich’s ticket in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. She has also served as a state representative and state auditor. In January, she chose Ohio businessman Nathan Estruth as her running mate.
Both candidates, as well as Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, who also entered the race only to later join DeWine’s campaign as his running mate, spoke at the City Club to launch their campaigns.
