History Happens at the City Club: 2018 Spring Giving Campaign

History Happens at the City Club: 2018 Spring Giving Campaign

Last month, the City Club commemorated one of the most extraordinary moments in our 106-year history. On April 5th, 1968 – the day after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. – Senator Robert F. Kennedy addressed a City Club crowd of 1,200 in what would later become known as the “Mindless Menace of Violence” speech. His words are hauntingly relevant in our society today.

“What has violence ever accomplished? What has it ever created? No martyr’s cause has ever been stilled by his assassin’s bullet. No wrongs have ever been righted by riots and civil disorders.”

Exactly 50 years later, hundreds of City Club members, students, and guests gathered in Downtown Cleveland to hear from Kerry Kennedy, Senator Kennedy’s daughter. It was a profound moment – one that made us reflect on the lasting resonance of Senator Kennedy’s words and the importance civil, civic dialogue holds in our nation today.

I want to be really candid with you: these incredible moments would not happen without your financial support.

By making a tax-deductible contribution toward our 2018 Spring Giving Campaign, you are providing the critical funding that our organization relies on to continue providing our community with thoughtful, constructive dialogue.

I hope you will join me in supporting more historic moments like this in the City Club’s future by making a contribution today.
