Welcome to our newest team member, Makiyah Murray

City Club Staff

Welcome to our newest team member, Makiyah Murray

The City Club of Cleveland warmly welcomes a new addition to our team this week, our summer intern, Makiyah Murray. Joining from the Summer on the Cuyahoga cohort, she will continue to work with us through early August. Makiyah is a rising second year scholar at The University of Chicago with the intended majors of Business Economics and Public Policy.

Previously she had spent her high school experience involved in community engagement and volunteer work with nonprofits and organizations within her school, focusing on topics such as safe driving practices, drug misuse, and youth empowerment.

She serves as a member of her university’s Organization of Black Students’ community service and action communities where she helps organize, plan, and market their activities. The organization’s most recent activities that she has served on were their community teach ins. A few that stand out to her: the environmental justice teach in featuring Cheryl Johnson, who is the daughter of Hazel Johnson, an advocate for her community and regarded as the “mother of environmental justice”; and the prison industrial complex teach in on how the prison industries effect on communities and the people who have survived the prison system.

We are excited to work with Makiyah and confident that she will be a great addition to our team. We hope she will gain the tools to become not only a successful nonprofit and marketing professional but a champion of democracy and free speech. The next time you are at the City Club say hello to Makiyah!
