And we're back! The City Club's 2024 Outdoor Summer Series moves to Wednesdays beginning July 10!
There is nothing quite like summer in The Land: Outdoor live music, countless festivals, and the soothing cadence of Lake Erie waves at sunset. And just as we have every summer since 2016, the City Club has packed up our gong and joined you outdoors. We have taken over some of our favorite outdoor public spaces providing conversations of consequence on some of the most pressing issues facing our city. And just as we said at the beginning eight years ago--it's all "For the Love of Cleveland."
This year we’ll be out at the Playhouse Square Plaza for our FREE summer forums. It's the same City Club you've grown to know, except we're outdoors, hair down, and sunglasses on. Pack a lunch or pick one up at one of the nearby restaurants and join us under the chandelier every Wednesday starting July 10th through August 14th at 11:45am - 1:00pm. RSVP at the links below to let us know you're coming.
July 10 - The New Nonprofit Management of the West Side Market
Rosemary Mudry will talk about her new role and vision as the first Executive Director of the Cleveland Public Market Corporation; as well as the West Side Market's integral role as an economic hub in supporting small business. This forum is part of our Building Success series sponsored by Huntington.
July 17 - Diversifying the Media Production Industry
A panel conversation featuring Sheila Wright, Founder and President of the CREW Foundation will talk about work opportunities for underrepresented populations in film, television, and media production.
July 24 - Representation Matters: Voices from the BorderLight Festival
Featured artists from the 2024 BorderLight Theatre Festival will join to talk about the importance of representation and diverse creativity in the arts and culture industry.
July 31 - Who Owns America: Uncovering Ownership, Empowering Communities
George W. McCarthy with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and Laura Brunner with The Port of Greater Cincinnati discusses Who Owns America--a project that helps organizations better understand and respond to housing challenges--including unprecedented investment by outside institutional investors in our communities. This forum is presented in partnership with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy
August 7 - Reclaiming Our Sustainable Food Ecosystems with Chef Jeremy Umansky
Jeremy Umansky, four-time James Beard Award Nominee and owner of Larder Delicatessen & Bakery in Ohio City's Hingetown District will talk about the benefits of foraging, sustainable food sourcing, and his recent cookbook Koji Alchemy.
August 14 - Leading the Way with Universal Basic Employment for Cleveland
Councilwoman Stephanie Howse-Jones, Devin Cotten with Universal Basic Employment & Opportunity, and Ken Surratt with the United Way of Greater Cleveland will join to talk about the recently approved City of Cleveland Universal Basic Employment pilot program--the first of its kind in the United States.
