Bringing Civic Engagement to the Classroom
The City Club of Cleveland is excited to introduce our new Education Resources—a collection of educator-created lesson plans designed specifically for high school students. These resources help teachers integrate City Club forums into their curriculum, encouraging students to engage with current events, develop critical thinking skills, and participate in meaningful discussions about the world around them.
Our offerings include lesson plans like the "City Club Forum Doodle," where students create visual notes based on forums addressing social justice topics like criminal justice reform and gun violence reduction. Another resource, the "City Club Socratic Seminar," provides a framework for engaging students in thoughtful discussions on various forum topics, encouraging them to craft open-ended questions and delve deeper into the subjects.
By integrating these materials into their curriculum, educators can provide students with unique opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world issues, utilizing both archived forum videos and in-person visits to the City Club. We believe that these resources will inspire the next generation of informed and engaged citizens.
We invite educators to explore these resources and consider incorporating them into their teaching strategies. For more information or to submit your own curricular resources, please contact Ariana Smith, Educational Engagement Manager, at arianasmith@cityclub.org.
Together, let's empower our students to engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
