Former City Club Intern Announces Congressional Bid
Former City Club Intern Announces Congressional Bid

If you came to a City Club event any time in the summer of 2024, you might remember Jahmiel Jackson. Then a rising senior at the University of Chicago, Jahmiel interned with us, frequently helping to manage forum Q & A sessions, and also helping with a lot of work behind the scenes.
A couple of weeks ago, Jahmiel reached out with some news—he had left Chicago and left his job with a national political consultancy to return to West Philadelphia where he grew up to run for congress. The current office holder in Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, Rep. Dwight Evans, announced in June that he would retire at the end of the term. He had served since 2016 following a 36-year career in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
It's not every day that former intern runs for Congress. We thought it would be fun for the City Club community to hear a little more about Jahmiel’s candidacy and his life story, which, to be honest, is both surprising and inspiring.
Jahmiel is one of 11 announced candidates in the primary. You should feel free to check out his campaign website. Of note, one of his opponents in the very crowded field spoke at the City Club in October of 2024: Dr. Ala Stanford.
