Pedro Noguera

Pedro A. Noguera, Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education, New York University.

Dr. Noguera discusses what schools need in order to prepare young students for jobs and further education in the 21st century. He says by looking at the data, it's easy to see that the schools serving the poorest kids are the ones failing, and with 22% of children in the U.S. coming from families at the poverty level, many additional services are required in public schools. Dr. Noguera also points out that while we've become extremely adept as a society at cultivating talent with poor children in the discipline of sports, we haven't done nearly as much with the same children in education.
