Congressman Louis Stokes has been in the news recently because of his activity as a membr of the ad hoc unofficial committee investigating the recent Black Panther shooting. Although this is his very first term in Congress, he has served on two very important committees: the House Un-American Activities Committee, which is holding inquiries into the Students for a Democratic Society and other campus radical groups; and on the Committee on Eudcation and Labor which passes on most of the legislation pertaining to urban areas.
Congressman Stokes was born and educated in Cleveland, and was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He is the recipient of numerous civic awards including the Cleveland Branch of the NAACP and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
He delivers the annual Father-Son-Daughter Forum address.
