"There is a difference between money for a few and the wealth of a nation." – Marcy Kaptur

In January 1997, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur took the oath of office for her eighth term in Congress, one of 62 women out of 535 members of the House of Representatives. She represents Ohio's 9th district which encompasses Toledo and its environs; a Polish-American of working class roots, she was the first of her family to attend college.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin, a Master's from the University of Michigan, and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from The University of Toledo. She is also the author of the book, Women of Congress: A Twentieth Century Odyssey.
