This panel features Judge Michael Astrab, Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, and Dr. Christina Delos Reyes, Program Director, Addiction Psychiatry, University Hospitals Case Medical Center. This program is moderated by Monica Robins, Anchor, WKYC Channel 3 News. An expert panel discusses the heroin and prescription opiate epidemic occurring in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and across the nation. The panelists talk about the fact that most people getting addicted to opiates start with prescription drugs before turning to the cheaper, easier to obtain, and more potent option of heroin. They say there is a lack of fear of these opiates in young people due to the fact that they're prescribed by doctors. Judge Astrab and Dr. Delos Reyes also acknowledge that finding doctors prescribing pain medication to anyone asking for it and prosecuting those doctors is key in the fight against heroin and opiate addiction.
