Roberta Kaplan is a partner at the New York law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Known as a powerhouse corporate litigator that thrives on pressure, Kaplan recently became famous for arguing before the United States Supreme Court on behalf of Edith Windsor in United States v. Windsor. As a result of this case, the Supreme Court ruled that a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violated the U.S. Constitution by barring legally married same-sex couples from enjoying the full range of benefits of marriage under federal law. Kaplan will be in conversation with Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
