"China is the number one emitter of pollution that causes global warming. Just ahead of the United States." – Paul Schroeder, Ph.D

On February 19, China will celebrate its New Year - the Year of the Goat - and say good-bye to the Year of the Horse, a year marked by a number of significant tensions. These included a dispute that escalated with Vietnam over contested waters in the South China Sea, growing antagonism with Japan and, most recently in the news, the Hong Kong protests that took place in the fall.

What do these events tell us about where China is headed domestically? What factors (political, economic, social and environmental) drive these tensions? Join The City Club of Cleveland, the Cleveland Council on World Affairs and International Partners in Mission for a panel discussion on how these recent events affect Chinese relations with the rest of the world, including its relationship with the United States.

The ideas expressed in City Club forums are those of the speakers, and not of the City Club, Ideastream Public Media, or their sponsors.
