"We're divided by money. We're divided by power. Power is really concentrated in this country. It's a very lopsided system" – Hedrick Smith

The American Dream depends on the prosperity of the middle class. In 1971, 61 percent of Americans classified themselves as middle class. According to 2014 research from the Pew Research Center, that number is now a scant 44 percent, the lowest percentage in 40 years. What is causing this shift? Can it be reversed? How will American prosperity be affected by this continual widening gulf between rich and poor?

Join us for a conversation with Hedrick Smith, Pulitzer Prize-winning former New York Times reporter and author of Who Stole the American Dream? on the political and economic forces behind the declining American middle class.
