Leading up to the November 3, 2015 general election, The City Club of Cleveland will be featuring conversations on Ohio ballot measures.
Approved by voters in 2006, the cigarette tax has provided $125 million for more than 300 arts organizations countywide, making Cuyahoga County a national leader in local public funding of the arts. The original levy expires in January 2017. Cuyahoga County residents can decide whether to renew the 10-year, 30-cents-a-pack tax on cigarettes for a second decade which is expected to generate $100 million for the arts between 2016 and 2026.
