"Parks and open space can be a catalyst for the economic success of a city." – Brian Zimmerman

In June, the Cleveland Metroparks opened the Cleveland Foundation Centennial Lake Link Trail, a half-mile multi-modal trail and natural stormwater management system that winds along a railroad right of-way from River Road to the Superior Viaduct. The eventual plan is to connect the trail to Whiskey Island and the lake via a bridge to the north and Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga County, and Canalway Partners are all working to extend the Towpath to meet the southern Irishtown Bend portion of the yet-to-be-completed 1.3 mile trail.

Adjacent to Irishtown Bend is a 25-mile slice of the Scranton Peninsula, recently sold by Forest City to a group of investors that includes Fred Geis, one of the city's most active developers.

How do these projects affect the city's relationship to its waterfront? How should this area be developed to take advantage of the Trail and the Towpath and increase the attraction and retention of residents?

Join us for a fun, flat ride through the industrial Flats and the Scranton Road Peninsula starting and ending at Merwin's Wharf. After, we'll enjoy snacks, beer, and a panel discussion on the potential for development along the Cuyahoga River.

Bike helmets are encouraged. Don't have a bike? Rent one from the Ohio City Bicycle Co-op. You can also sign up for a UH Bike and meet us at Merwin's Wharf. Use discount code G3TR1D1NG for a 30 minute credit to your UH Bikes membership.

Location: Merwin's Wharf
1785 Merwin Ave
Cleveland, OH 44113

Schedule: 5:30 p.m. Riders convene at Merwin's Wharf
