From diet and exercise to meditation and positive thinking, it appears most Americans, at some time or other, seek a pathway to better or more improved health. And the first place they often turn to is not the doctor's office, but the bookstore. According to the Publishers Association’s 2016 annual report, readers of fitness and self-help books increased overall non-fiction book sales by 9 percent.
What is with our modern obsession with health and wellness? Are our attempts at perfection in body, mind, and spirit reachable? Or should we simply give life over to our vices and hope for the best? And what happens when, despite our best attempts, life intervenes?
As part of our Best Books series, we're exploring written works on health, wellness, and the not-so-straight paths we may take to get there. Join us for an intriguing, wry, and insightful discussion with some of Cleveland's best literary minds.
The night will close with our traditional Q&A. No pre-reading or homework required.
