In this age of increasing divide in America, it can be argued that journalists and the media are facing intense scrutiny. Almost daily, Americans read about the shuttering of newspapers and magazines, attacks on the press' credibility, and earlier this year, the criticism turned fatal when a gunman stormed into Maryland's Capital Gazette, killing five journalists.
Earlier this year, David Folkenflik from NPR visited the City Club and emphasized the importance of journalism. And, although the way we engage with news is changing with the rise of social media, freedom of the press remains one of the pillars of the United States - a First Amendment right that has been fiercely protected.
What is the role of press in America? What do we risk when its role is diminished?
Join us for the second Youth Forum of the year as we discuss the changes that have affected the press and its role in today's America.
