"If we are not thoughtful about social impact as part of the policy, then we might not see the types of investment we want to see." – Alesha Washington

Earlier this month, the Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 166, the proposed biennial $69 billion state budget. Significant items in the budget include personal income tax cuts, more money for education, public health programs and children's services, and raising the age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21.

The budget received unusual bipartisan support; despite this, more House Republicans (seven) voted against the GOP-sponsored bill than House Democrats (two).

Now the budget heads to the Ohio Senate for approval in advance of Governor DeWine's signature by June 30. What changes are expected? What items will have the biggest impact on Ohioans?
