Listen to the PodcastThis year marks a pivotal year for the Fairfax neighborhood as it nears the end of a five-year strategic investment plan—and the dawn of a renaissance that’s been in the works for close to two decades with Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation. Located on the emerging Opportunity Corridor and buoyed by Opportunity Zones, Fairfax is now experiencing an influx of new services and amenities, while making strides to include its long-time residents as the local landscape shifts.
Striking this balance is key for a neighborhood that plays home to some of Cleveland's oldest institutions, including St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church (the oldest church in Cleveland), and Karamu House (the oldest African-American theater in the country). And most recently, Karamu House is under consideration as an integral piece to a partnership for a new K-8 Arts School in the neighborhood.
While many of these developments appear to be new, these initiatives are a result of many year-long partnerships and projects. The Cleveland Clinic continues to have a profound impact on the neighborhood, and other corporate partners—such as PNC Bank—have expanded community engagement.
