"For the person asking 'why should I care about the newcomer population?' It's morally right. It's culturally right. It's economically right." – Patrick Kearns

An unprecedented global pandemic that knows no borders has brought into sharp focus the intersection of U.S. immigration and public health policy, and the unique challenges that immigrants and refugees face in the United States today. The pandemic, coupled with the coming election, stand to have a singular impact on immigrant communities.

This forum will discuss how COVID-19 is creating distinct challenges for Northeast Ohio's newcomers, including both those who are essential workers and those put out of work by the pandemic, as well as their children, many of whom are struggling to access online learning. These issues run headlong into political flashpoints like restrictions on government assistance, healthcare for the undocumented, and the federal government's unprecedented limits on refugee and asylum-seeker admission.

Join us as we discuss the issues facing Ohio's immigrants in 2020, and what lies ahead.

The livestream will be available beginning at 10:30 a.m. Have questions? Tweet them at @TheCityClub or send a text to 330.541.5794.
