Our country has just begun to emerge from one of the most significant mass disruptions to American education in our history. In its wake, parents across the country are asking more and more questions about how our schools are meeting the needs of their children, and teachers are facing never-before-seen challenges.
On February 7, 2017, Betsy DeVos was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the 11th U.S. Secretary of Education. As a business leader, philanthropist, and political activist who has pursued public policy reforms in education for the last three decades, DeVos has a unique vantage point from which to discuss the future of American education. During her tenure as Secretary, she pursued higher education reforms including expanding access to career and technical education and apprenticeship opportunities. She also advocated for the value of religious education, pushed for school choice, and the support of private and charter schools.
In her new book, Hostages No More: The Fight for Education Freedom and the Future of the American Child, DeVos chronicles her journey working in education and her experience as a key member of the Trump cabinet. Join us for a conversation with the former Secretary of Education about the state of our schools and their future.
