Strengthening Democracy, One Small Step at a Time

The special program for the 2022 City Club Annual Meeting will begin at 11:00 am with a brief overview of the City Club's last year of accomplishments, followed by lunch at 11:30am, and the City Club Friday Forum featuring Dave Isay at noon.

If you know Dave Isay, you likely know of him as the founder of StoryCorps, the audio project that has been inviting Americans to interview family members about their lives for nearly 20 years. For years, NPR listeners have built a Friday routine around the selection of these interviews that are shared over the air during Morning Edition, inspiring listeners with the wisdom, intimacy and simple joy of hearing a conversation between two people expressing their bonds of affection.

Last year, Isay and his colleagues decided to see if this simple conversation model could help citizens bridge the nation's partisan divide. One Small Step invites citizens from different political backgrounds to interview one another about their perspectives and how they came to those views. The result is what you might hope for--more light, more understanding, less heat, and less antagonism.
