We've Been Here The Whole Time! A Not So Sacred Guide to All Things Native America

What would happen if The Onion's writers' room wrote a book about Indian Country? No, seriously. What if?

We’ve Been Here The Whole Time! A Not So Sacred Guide to All Things Native America is a funny and deeply informative comedy satire book about Native American history and modern issues likely left out of your high school's lesson plans. Illustrated in an irreverent textbook-meets-notebook style by Diné artist Julie Fiveash, We've Been Here the Whole Time! walks you through a wide range of misconceptions, weird questions, and even weirder assumptions, covering everything from Pocahontas and sports mascots to ancestry claims and the Land Back movement.

A Peabody and 2x Emmy Award-nominated comedian, writer, director, producer and enrolled member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, author Joey Clift has written for a lot of your favorite TV shows: Paw Patrol, Spirit Rangers, and Molly of Denali; as well as for comedy outlets like Dropout, Comedy Central, and Cracked! As a TV writer, Joey has dedicated his life to using comedy to teach people about Native issues, offering a fun, fast, and accessible approach to the topic.

Join us as City Club's own Cynthia Connolly sits down with Joey Clift to discuss his journey in TV and writing, and unpack how he leverages comedy to inform others and, perhaps even, bridge divides.
