Cleveland-based Progressive is one of the largest writers of insurance in the United States.
The company’s mission is to reduce the human trauma and economic costs of auto accidents. They do this by providing services to policy holders, available around the clock.
The Progressive Insurance organization began business in 1937. Progressive Casualty Insurance Company was founded in 1956. The Progressive Corporation, an insurance holding company formed in 1965, has more than 350 offices with nearly 20,000 employees in 48 states and the District of Columbia.
It is also the number one writer of motorcycle insurance in the U.S. In 2002, Progressive reported net written premium of $9.4 billion. The Progressive Corporation stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
Progressive is consistently given high ratings by A.M. Best, the independent rating firm that evaluates insurance companies for financial stability and strength.
