Fareed Siddiq asks a question at a 2017 City Club forum.
When we think about our responsibility in this world and this republic, an institution such as The City Club quickly comes to an understanding that there may be no higher purpose than supporting true inclusion, in other words, doing our part to help our democratic republic evolve to become uniquely welcoming to all cultures and backgrounds. For the City Club, that means providing a platform for speakers of diverse backgrounds and unique points of view, individuals who challenge us to heed the better angels of our nature and welcome the newcomer and the outsider.
For years now, the Siddiq family has assisted and supported that goal, frequently with connections to speakers from across the country and around the globe whose perspectives center the Muslim experience and help us understand the breadth of human experience and the gifts that brings. Khizr Khan, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba, Shahid Hamid, Daisy Khan, Naif al Mutawa, and others have shared perspectives that have changed how Clevelanders understand the Islamic world.
In recognition of a generous gift to the endowment, the City Club will host The Siddiq Forum on the Islamic World, an annual celebration of leaders, thinkers, visionaries, advocates, and artists. In sharing their perspective, their stories, and their passions, these speakers will help create a more inclusive community here in Greater Cleveland, and in Ohio, and help to ensure that the future of our democratic republic is truly inclusive and multicultural.
