Justin E. Herdman took over as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio in August, 2017 after receiving bipartisan support from Ohio's Senators, Rob Portman (R) and Sherrod Brown (D), and being unanimously confirmed by the Senate via a voice vote.
As U.S. Attorney, Herdman supervises the prosecution of federal crimes including crimes related to terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, firearms, and narcotics for a 40-county area in Ohio. Two particular areas of focus for Herdman are curbing the opioid epidemic and reducing violent crime—no small task for Cleveland. Last year, Forbes ranked Cleveland 9th on its list of the most violent cities in the U.S. The city’s violent crime rate is 1,363 per 100,000 residents. Of those violent crimes, 14.5 per 100,000 were homicides.
Join us to hear from our region's new U.S. attorney about the work ahead to make Cleveland and the state a fairer, more just place.
